EZ PASS to be used for Parking and Gas in PA, NJ, and NY
Drivers in New Jersey and 18 other states will soon be able to use their E-ZPass tags to pay for parking and gas, expanding on the non-toll payment options that have been available at major Port Authority airports since 2003. The program, developed by PayByCar and the E-ZPass Group, allows drivers to pay for gas and parking via their E-ZPass tag. Participating locations will send a text to drivers for authorization as they enter a gas station or parking garage, facilitating a contactless transaction that promises to reduce fraud and transaction times. The expansion will include over 100 gas stations in New Jersey in the coming months, although specific retailer names have not yet been announced. This service is separate from toll payments, and charges will not affect the balance of E-ZPass accounts used for tolls.
Community-Supported Youth Theater Stages 'Beauty and the Beast
The 7 Mile Island Players presented "Beauty and the Beast" at Middle Township Performing Arts Center. This youth theater program, led by the Martin family, involves 90 children. The program offers kids a near-professional theater experience. What sets this production apart is the use of the same set that was featured at the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia, coupled with guidance from professional choreographers and directors. This provides the children with an invaluable, almost professional experience. "It's been a rollercoaster for sure," said Charlie Casey, who played Beast. His sentiment is echoed by Christopher Pry, who played Gaston: "Being in theater gives you more people to hang out with, you make amazing friends and you just have fun." Grace Martin, who played Belle, shared her joy in performing: "When the kids are up there smiling and having fun, that's what matters. That's what makes a show."
SWAT Demos, K-9 Units, and More Highlight First Day of Youth Camp
The first day of Lower Township Police Youth Camp featured various activities and demonstrations from local police, fire departments, and other agencies. The day's highlights included a SWAT demonstration by Officer Nuscis and members of the CMC SWAT team—Billy Kocis, Mike Harkin, Ryan Osmundsen, Shane Moyer, and Connor Hughes—along with a Taser demonstration. The Cape May County Sheriff’s Department, led by Sgt. Phillips and his K-9 squad, showcased their dogs' impressive skills. A thrilling part of the day was when members of the local fire departments, including Lt. Bill Szemcsak from Cape May City Fire, guided the campers in extinguishing a car fire. To top off the eventful day, the campers enjoyed a surprise water balloon fight to cool down. Lunch was generously provided by NCM Wawa, and Rita’s Water Ice in Rio Grande donated a refreshing dessert. Overall, it was a fantastic first day filled with learning and fun.
Phillies' Struggles Continue with Rookie's Rough Outing
The Philadelphia Phillies are facing a troubling stretch, losing 10-2 to Seattle on Friday night, marking their fifth consecutive loss and 12th in the last 16 games. Rookie pitcher Tyler Phillips had a tough night, allowing multiple home runs that drastically increased his ERA from 1.80 to 4.39 after just five outs. The Phillies' offensive struggles compounded the issue, with key players like Bryce Harper and Trea Turner underperforming significantly. The team, now holding a 65-44 record, faces a challenging schedule ahead with upcoming games against top teams like the Dodgers and the Diamondbacks. To turn things around, the Phillies will need significant contributions from their highest-paid players, who have so far been unable to halt the team's slide.
