Heroic Bystanders Rescue Victims in Deadly Egg Harbor Township Accident

A tragic car accident in Egg Harbor Township resulted in the deaths of two women and injuries to seven others Friday night. The crash, involving three cars and debris hitting a fourth, occurred on the Black Horse Pike. Escarlin Suriel, a pregnant 21-year-old from Atlantic City, and Gabriella Constrantino, a 22-year-old from Pleasantville, were the fatalities. Police commend the bravery of witnesses and passing motorists who acted quickly and selflessly, pulling occupants from a burning car before it was fully engulfed in flames. One of these heroic bystanders was among the injured.

Dogs and Owners Compete in Pie-Eating Contest for a Good Cause

Dogs and their owners participated in a pie-eating contest at the Garden State Beer Company, previewing the Bark in the Park event benefiting Laddie's Legacy. Dan McNerney and his Bernese Mountain Dog, Otis, took first place. Participants included Absecon Veterinary doctors and staff, Seashore Dog Training, local government officials, Patient Care Hospice, American Canine Coach, Dayna Troiano Dog Training, and Office Basics. Bark in the Park will be held on September 14 at the Atlantic County 4H Fairgrounds, featuring vendors, food trucks, a beer garden, and dog-friendly activities.

.NJ Residents Shocked by Higher Electric Bills Amid Rate Hikes and Heatwave

New Jersey residents are facing higher electric bills due to recent rate hikes and a heatwave. The state Board of Public Utilities approved rate increases in February, which took effect on June 1. The combination of higher rates and the second-warmest June on record has led to significant bill increases.

The primary driver of the bill increases has been the hot, humid weather. June 2024 was the second-warmest June in New Jersey since 1895. JCP&L spokesman Christopher Hoenig noted, "Air conditioning is typically the largest power draw in your house. How much more you spend on AC this summer vs. last summer depends on several factors like the size and age of your house and your AC system, and especially the efficiency of your house and AC system."

Tips to save on energy costs include using fans, closing blinds, sealing leaks, checking filters, and avoiding heat-producing appliances. Residents can also explore competitive energy suppliers and payment assistance programs.

Yankees Dominate as Phillies Falter Ahead of Trade Deadline

The Phillies were defeated 14-4 by the Yankees, with standout performances from Aaron Judge and Juan Soto. Zack Wheeler struggled, allowing three home runs early in the game. Bryce Harper, visibly frustrated, has struggled over the past few games, going 1-for-20 in his last five outings. Trea Turner, who had been hot in early July, has also cooled off, with just one hit in his last 17 at-bats. The Phillies, now 65-41, have lost 12 of their last 20 games.

Aaron Nola will take the mound Tuesday night against Gerrit Cole, who has struggled in four of his seven starts since returning from elbow inflammation in June.

76ers Eye Camden for New Stadium Amid Philly Roadblocks

New Jersey is making a play to bring a professional sports team to the Garden State, targeting the Philadelphia 76ers as their prize. The 76ers have faced numerous obstacles in their attempts to build a new stadium in Center City, Philadelphia. The area is densely populated and distant from the city’s other sports venues.

With these challenges in mind, New Jersey has offered an alternative. The state has ample space in Camden, complete with picturesque waterfront views and a skyline that includes Philadelphia. This proposal includes significant financial incentives, such as a potential $400 million tax break. The 76ers already have their offices and practice stadium in Camden, making the move more convenient.

The prospect of relocating the 76ers' home games to Camden is enticing to fans who find Philadelphia’s traffic and parking to be a hassle. The move would eliminate bridge tolls and provide a more accessible venue. Enthusiasts are hopeful for a smooth transition, similar to the New York Jets and Giants’ arrangement at MetLife Stadium.
