Say Goodbye to Toll Booths: PA Turnpike Introduces Cashless Tolling is NJ Next?

The Pennsylvania Turnpike is eliminating toll booths in favor of Open Road Tolling, starting in five months. This cashless system will toll drivers as they pass under gantries.  The switch aims to improve efficiency and safety, reducing accidents caused by drivers navigating through toll plazas. The new system will start rolling out at the Northeast Extension and east of Reading in January, eventually expanding westward. Turnpike CEO Mark Compton assures drivers they don't need to make any changes, as billing will be handled through the new open road tolling system. COO Craig Shuey highlights the benefits of smoother traffic flow and reduced idling at interchanges.

Historic Message in a Bottle Found in New Jersey

Amy Smyth Murphy discovered a glass bottle with a message inside while walking on the beach at Corson's Inlet State Park in Ocean City, New Jersey. The bottle, notable for its aqua color, contained a note and a business card from the 1870s, referencing a yacht called "The Neptune" and a Philadelphia-based company, W.G.&J. Klemm Gents' Furnishing Goods. The bottle itself was marked with "Barr and Brother Philadelphia." Amy, a greeting card designer, has engaged in extensive research to uncover more about the bottle's origins and contents, involving her family in the process and sharing their findings on TikTok. She believes the bottle could be the oldest message in a bottle ever found and has contacted the Guinness Book of World Records for verification.

Potential Phillies Trade Targets

The Philadelphia Phillies are anticipated to be highly active as the MLB trade deadline approaches, with a focus on bolstering their roster to solidify their status as World Series contenders. They are considering several potential trade targets:

  1. Randy Arozarena, who could benefit from the strong Phillies lineup despite his current slump.

  2. Luis Robert Jr., a high-cost outfielder who could significantly enhance the team's batting strength.

  3. Cody Bellinger, a former MVP whose performance could improve with the Phillies.

  4. Tanner Scott, a reliable closer candidate with an impressive season record.

  5. Brent Rooker, who offers both immediate impact and long-term value with his powerful batting.

  6. Mason Miller, the top potential acquisition with elite closing abilities, albeit at a high cost.

These targets reflect the Phillies' strategic aim to improve both their offense and bullpen to make a strong playoff push.
