Meteorologist Explains Dense Fog Covering Beaches, Beachgoers Adapt

Beaches have been Foggy

Thick fog enveloped Beaches in  New Jersey, on Tuesday, severely limiting visibility and making the ocean hard to see. The fog, caused by warm air over cooler ocean waters and calm winds, is expected to persist until Wednesday afternoon. Beach patrols are allowing swimming but keeping a close watch, ensuring safety despite the challenging conditions. Meteorologist Karen Rogers provided insight into the weather phenomenon, while local beachgoers and lifeguards adapt to the foggy situation. "The reason is we had some upwelling yesterday. The ocean water temperatures are in the low 60s, and warmer air is flowing in over the cooler ocean air, forming the fog," she said. Calm winds have also contributed to the persistent fog.

Vacationers Face Sticker Shock at Jersey Shore Amid Rising Food Costs

Vacationers heading to the Jersey Shore are encountering rising food costs at local eateries and grocery stores. Despite the holiday atmosphere, restaurant owners are raising menu prices due to increased supplier charges, leading to fewer customers. Visitors like Trevor Pierce have noted a significant increase in prices over the years, particularly on the boardwalk. Grocery shoppers, are also feeling the pinch, with costs so high that a single bag of groceries can run up to $100. Despite the high prices, some business owners, are trying to keep dining costs down by absorbing credit card fees and maintaining year-round operations to stabilize costs. However, the overall impact of rising food prices is putting a strain on both locals and tourists at the Jersey Shore.

Trea Turner's Grand Slam Highlights Phillies' Rout of Dodgers

In a recent showdown that could preview a potential playoff battle, the Philadelphia Phillies decisively defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers, capitalizing on Dodgers starter Bobby Miller's poor performance. Miller, struggling with command after returning from a shoulder injury, gave up nine runs in just four innings. This included a burst of scoring from the Phillies in the fourth inning, highlighted by Trea Turner's grand slam and Bryson Stott's home run, his first since May.

While Phillies starter Zack Wheeler was initially dominant, he encountered difficulties in the fifth inning, allowing a series of hits and walks, including a home run to Cavan Biggio. Wheeler was later pulled from the game due to low back tightness, raising concerns about his availability and condition moving forward, especially with the postseason in mind.

Adding to the Phillies' concerns, outfielder Johan Rojas was hit by a pitch on the wrist but remained in the game to run the bases before being replaced by Cristian Pache. The game's outcome, while favorable in score, brought to light potential vulnerabilities for both teams as they eye the playoffs.
