Cape May Court Upholds Decision Against Motel Expansion,
Cites Parking Issues
The state appellate court has upheld a decision by the Cape May City Planning Board to deny Cape Jetty LLC's request to demolish the Jetty Motel and construct a larger resort hotel. The proposed redevelopment aimed to transform the existing 33-unit motel into a 53-unit resort with additional amenities, including a large public restaurant and expanded parking. The project faced opposition from local residents and stumbled on several regulatory hurdles, particularly related to parking provisions. While the court supported the denial of the 2021 redevelopment application, it sent back a portion of the case to the lower court to assess the propriety of denying an extension for a previously approved 2019 plan.
