Lower Township Holds Tax Rate Steady with $34.6M Budget, Thanks to Increased Property Values
The Lower Township Council has successfully passed a $34.6 million budget for the fiscal year 2024, managing to keep the tax rate steady without any increase. This financial stability has been attributed to an $11 million increase in assessed property values within the township, allowing for a slight decrease in the tax rate from .6180 to .6179 per $100 of assessed value.
This change means that a homeowner with a property valued at $300,000 will see their tax bill reduce by about 30 cents compared to the previous year. The budget, praised for its adherence to state-mandated spending and tax levy caps, includes increased expenditures for salaries, wages, and other expenses, yet manages to enhance revenue projections significantly. The township boasts a high tax collection rate, slightly dipping from 99.25% to 99.06%. This fiscal strategy showcases the township's commitment to maintaining financial health without burdening its residents with higher taxes.

New Jersey Chick-fil-A Ensures Quality with Updated Chicken Sourcing Policy
Chick-fil-A in New Jersey is set to adjust its chicken standards across all locations. The chain, known for prioritizing health by serving real chicken, is shifting from "No Antibiotics Ever" (NAE) Chicken to "No Antibiotics Important to Human Medicine" (NAIHM) Chicken.
This change aligns with Chick-fil-A's commitment to maintaining high-quality food and ethical standards, ensuring the chicken served remains real, white breast meat without added fillers, artificial preservatives, or steroids. The adjustment comes amid food shortages and aims to address concerns over chicken health without compromising human safety. This update follows a similar move by Tyson Foods and is part of a broader effort to manage food supply challenges effectively.
Steve's Prince of Steaks to Crown Wildwood with New Location This April
Steve's Prince of Steaks, a beloved Philadelphia cheesesteak shop with 40 years of history, is set to expand its reach to Wildwood, New Jersey. Scheduled to open its doors on April 20th at 2701 New Jersey Ave, this new location will be the brand's fourth outlet, taking over a space formerly occupied by Classic Sandwiches.
Renowned for its slogan "One bite and you'll be a loyal subject for life," the shop has already made its mark in Wildwood with a food truck at various local events. The opening is anticipated by fans eager to see if it will join the ranks of the best cheesesteaks in South Jersey.
Stone Harbor Prepares for Bridge Replacement, Announces Key Dates
The Stone Harbor Borough Council recently received an update on the replacement plans for the 96th Street Bridge. The design phase is progressing, with completion estimated between 60% and 90%. The project aims for final design approval and permit acquisition by the end of the year, allowing for funding submission and the initiation of the bidding process in early 2025. Construction is expected to start in September 2025. The replacement process will necessitate several road closures and the installation of a temporary bridge that won't accommodate all vessels due to height restrictions. The project timeline anticipates road closures starting in February 2026, with the goal to complete the new bridge by May 2028, although the schedule may adjust due to unforeseen factors.
