First Rabies Case of the Year
Confirmed in Cape May County,
Dog Under Confinement
Cape May County has reported its first rabies case of the year, triggering a health alert and highlighting the importance of vigilance and vaccination against this deadly virus. The case came to light after a dog interacted with a raccoon on February 26th, leading to an investigation by local authorities. The raccoon, found on Woodbine Avenue in Belleplain, Dennis Township, later tested positive for rabies.
As a precautionary measure, the dog involved in the incident received a rabies booster shot and is currently under a 45-day confinement to ensure no further spread of the virus. Fortunately, there have been no human exposures reported in this incident.
Health officials in Cape May County have issued a warning regarding the risks associated with rabies, emphasizing that encounters with rabid animals can be fatal for unvaccinated pets and pose significant risks to humans. Residents are urged to report any sightings of wild animals exhibiting unusual behavior to their local animal control officers and to seek medical attention immediately if bitten. Additionally, anyone potentially exposed to rabies is advised to get vaccinated promptly to prevent the disease.
To support public health and safety, Cape May County is offering free rabies vaccination clinics at various locations throughout the coming months. These clinics provide an essential service to the community, ensuring that pets are protected against rabies and helping to prevent the spread of this dangerous virus.

Harbor View Restaurant Bids Farewell After 30 Years, Cape May Eager for
New Culinary Chapter
After three decades of serving up culinary delights with a view of Cape May Harbor, the iconic Harbor View Restaurant has closed its doors, signaling not only the end of an era but also a period of transition and renewal for the local dining scene. The restaurant's sudden announcement of its closure, effective just a day after the news broke, caught both patrons and employees by surprise, highlighting the transient and often precarious nature of the restaurant industry. Harbor View Restaurant, a fixture in the community known for its scenic location and quality dining, bid farewell to its loyal followers with a heartfelt message on social media, expressing gratitude and offering best wishes to the new proprietors set to take over.
This closure comes amid a challenging year for the restaurant sector in New Jersey, which saw an array of establishments, from small cafes to large chains, shutting down due to economic pressures, changing consumer preferences, and fierce competition. The Harbor View's closing reflects the broader struggles within the hospitality industry, where sustainability and success are increasingly difficult to maintain over time.
However, the end of Harbor View Restaurant also marks the beginning of new opportunities for Cape May's culinary scene. The town, known for its vibrant and diverse food offerings, awaits the arrival of new owners who will bring their vision to this prime location. The community is buzzing with anticipation, hopeful that the next chapter will bring fresh ideas and innovation to an already esteemed dining landscape. As Cape May continues to evolve, the spirit of resilience and the continuous support from diners promise a future filled with exciting culinary adventures and the potential for growth and revitalization within the industry.

Nets Show Playoff Caliber Grit in
Victory Over Injury-Hit 76ers
In a pivotal matchup, the Brooklyn Nets, facing a critical juncture in their season, mounted a resilient comeback to secure a 112-107 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers, who were notably absent their All-Star duo. Under the interim guidance of Coach Kevin Ollie, the Nets were determined to rebound from a previous loss and keep their playoff aspirations alive. Dennis Schroder and Dorian Finney-Smith stepped up, each contributing 20 points to the win, with significant support from Lonnie Walker IV and Nic Claxton, who also played crucial roles in the team's success.
The game was particularly challenging for the Nets, who had to overcome an early double-digit deficit against a 76ers team hampered by injuries, including a last-minute scratch of Tyrese Maxey due to a concussion. Despite these challenges, the Nets capitalized on their opponents' weakened lineup, showing the kind of grit and determination required for a successful playoff push.
For the 76ers, the absence of key players like Joel Embiid and the newly sidelined Maxey put additional pressure on the rest of the team. Kelly Oubre Jr. rose to the occasion with a season-high 30 points, but it wasn't enough to stave off the Nets' determined comeback.
The game was a rollercoaster, with the 76ers initially taking a strong lead only for the Nets to fight back, spurred by a fiery exchange between Schroder and Kyle Lowry, which seemed to ignite the Nets' competitive spirit. The fourth quarter saw the Nets outmaneuver the 76ers, clinching the victory with a decisive scoring run.
Looking ahead, both teams face challenging schedules, with the Nets embarking on a significant road stretch and the 76ers aiming to regroup against Memphis. As the season progresses, the resilience and adaptability demonstrated in this game will be critical for both teams' playoff ambitions.
