Cape May County Cracks Down
on Child Pornography with
Arrest of Deputy Sheriff

Cape May County officials have charged a deputy sheriff from a Philadelphia suburb with serious offenses related to child pornography. James Christopher Buckley, 57, of Gilbertsville, PA, faces allegations of endangering the welfare of a child through the distribution and possession of child pornography, with charges leveled as second-degree and third-degree crimes, respectively.

The charges stem from an investigation initiated by a tip-off to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which pointed to an individual, later identified as Buckley, engaging in the possession and distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) through his iCloud account. These activities were reportedly conducted from his vacation home in Wildwood.

Buckley's arrest on February 20th revealed his position as a deputy sheriff officer with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office in Pennsylvania. He is currently being held at the Cape May County Correctional Facility awaiting further legal proceedings.

In New Jersey, convictions for second-degree crimes can result in five to ten years of imprisonment, while third-degree crimes carry potential sentences of three to five years.

This case highlights the ongoing efforts of the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office's ICAC Task Force, dedicated to combating the exploitation of children and the distribution of child sexual assault materials. The public is encouraged to report any related suspicious activities.

It is important to remember that an accusation does not equate to guilt, and all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
