Fentanyl-Laced Heroin Operation Dismantled in Cape May County
In Rio Grande, NJ, Kelvin Claudio, 35, was arrested following a narcotics investigation by the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office. Law enforcement officials seized 2,100 bags of suspected heroin from Claudio, along with $1,373 in cash. The substances previously seized were analyzed and tested positive for Fentanyl and Xylazine, a combination that enhances the drug's effects and poses additional health risks. Claudio faces charges including second-degree possession with intent to distribute and third-degree money laundering. He is currently held pending court proceedings, with potential sentencing for second-degree crimes ranging from five to ten years.
Cape May Advisory Committee to
Review Beach Utility Finances in
Comprehensive Study
Cape May's Municipal Taxation and Revenue Advisory Committee announced plans to conduct an in-depth review of the city’s beach utility, focusing on its financial operations. With a budget of $3.4 million in 2023, largely funded by beach tag sales, the utility's analysis aims to ensure efficient management of resources dedicated to beach maintenance and services. The committee, a citizen-led advisory group, is also considering the adoption of digital beach tags, inspired by practices in neighboring Sea Isle City, as part of their broader examination of the city's fiscal policies and utilities management.
