Cape May Zoo Welcomes Arizona-Born Bobcats to Small Mammals Exhibit

The Cape May County Park & Zoo has welcomed two new residents—a pair of young bobcats originally from Arizona. Born in June 2024, the brother and sister duo arrived last month and are now housed in the zoo's small mammals section, taking over the former bobcat exhibit. These elusive felines are now part of the zoo's daily lineup and can be seen by visitors during regular hours from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Bobcats, recognized by their short, bobbed tails, are medium-sized wild cats native to North America. Typically active at night, they are known for their solitary and stealthy nature, making sightings in the wild uncommon. Now living in the small mammals section, the duo is part of the zoo’s educational and conservation initiatives. Admission to the zoo is free but donations are accepted.

A bill introduced in the New Jersey Assembly would exempt certain disabled veterans from paying E-ZPass tolls on the state’s major highways. Eligible veterans must have a New Jersey-registered vehicle, a “Disabled Vet” license plate, and an active E-ZPass account. The exemption would apply to tolls collected by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and South Jersey Transportation Authority. The initiative is designed to ease travel for veterans who meet the criteria and would officially go into effect 90 days after being signed into law.

Cape May Selected for FAA’s Latest Off-Airport Drone Trials

The FAA will begin two weeks of drone-detection testing in Cape May, New Jersey, starting Monday. The tests will use over 100 drones and take place near the Cape May Ferry Terminal. This effort, supported by local responders, is part of an off-airport expansion of the FAA’s drone monitoring research.  Cape May marks the second location for these off-airport evaluations, following earlier tests in Alaska. Additional locations scheduled for later this year include New Mexico, North Dakota, and Mississippi. The FAA has issued a warning for recreational drone users to avoid the testing area throughout the two-week period. The agency receives more than 100 drone sighting reports near airports each month and continues to stress the dangers and illegality of flying drones near aircraft or airport facilities.
