New Format for AirFest 2024: Four Days of Aviation History and Family Fun
Naval Air Station Wildwood, which served as a dive-bomber training facility during World War II, now operates as the NASW Aviation Museum in Cape May, New Jersey. The museum preserves and displays historic aircraft and hosts the annual AirFest. This year, AirFest 2024 will expand to a four-day event from August 29 to September 1, featuring WWII aircraft, food trucks, live entertainment, and flyovers, including one by F-16 jets. The event provides educational exhibits, interactions with military personnel, and activities suitable for all ages, continuing to honor the area's historical significance. Admission is charged for adults and children, with free entry for museum members, children under three, and active-duty military.
Boat Fire at Wildwood’s Schooner Island Marina Causes Emergency Response
A fire erupted on the boat "Luv-It" at Wildwood’s Schooner Island Marina around 12:45 PM yesterday. The marina is a significant boating hub located behind Uries Waterfront Restaurant. Emergency services are currently addressing the situation. The fire reportedly started at the marina’s fuel dock while the boat was refueling. "Luv-It," a 41-foot vessel valued at $159,000, features twin Mercruiser engines, a luxurious interior with two staterooms, and a flybridge equipped with amenities suitable for entertaining. Firefighters from Squad 3 and Station 2 were promptly on the scene, with additional support called in to manage the blaze.
Inch-Long European Hornets Active in NJ, Warns Pest Management Experts
European hornets, inch-long brown and yellow insects, have been a part of the American ecosystem since the 1840s, originating from Asia and Europe. They pose a risk of painful and potentially allergic stings to people and pets if threatened, as they can sting multiple times without losing their stinger. These hornets also damage vegetation by chewing through bark to access sap. Although prevalent in late summer, there's no specific tracking of their presence in New Jersey at this time. To minimize encounters, the National Pest Management Association advises sealing food and garbage, cleaning up fallen fruit, and relocating hummingbird feeders. If a nest is found, it is crucial to hire a professional for safe removal.
Braves Take Rubber Game from Phils
Spencer Schwellenbach, a rookie pitcher for the Atlanta Braves, delivered an impressive performance by retiring 19 consecutive batters, helping his team secure a 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. This win tightened the NL East race, bringing the Braves within six games of the Phillies and bolstering their Wild Card position. Adam Duvall's decisive home run in the sixth inning was crucial in the victory. Schwellenbach, who only started playing above High-A level in late May, has shown significant potential, holding a 2.84 ERA over his last eight starts and establishing himself as a reliable option for the Braves' postseason rotation..
